Bromeliad Primera ( Aechmea fasciata)

Aechmea fasciata is an exotic-looking bromeliad that grows epiphytically in its natural habitat in the rainforests of Brazil. In temperate climates it is grown as a houseplant. Aechmea fasciata ‘Primera’ forms a rosette of broad green leaves with silver-grey horizontal markings. From the centre it bears a large flower spike with pink bracts dotted with small purple flowers.

Grow Aechmea fasciata ‘Primera’ in a warm room, in a bright spot out of direct sun. It likes humidity, so place on a tray of damp pebbles or mist regularly. In its natural habitat the rosette of leaves form an ‘urn’ or well, which collects rainwater. As a houseplant, the plant is watered by filling the urn, too, to around one inch deep. Ideally, use rainwater, or failing that, distilled or filtered water. Empty and refill the urn every couple of weeks to prevent the water stagnating.

The plant is usually sold in flower. This will last for many weeks before it fades and the plant dies back. The plant will form ‘pups’ or baby plants at its base – when they are around a third of the size of the parent plant, they can be cut away and potted up, forming new plants.

p Dracaena massangeana

The mass cane plant, also known as corn plant or Dracaena massangeana, is a popular upright evergreen houseplant in the genus Dracaena. This tropical tree-like flowering plant is a cultivar of Dracaena fragrans species, hence its full scientific name is Dracaena fragrans ‘massangeana’.

Carrément sans danger, le Dracaena fragrans ‘Massangeana’ est parfait pour les chambres d’enfants. Également parfait dans toutes les pièces de la maison où vous avez des meubles en bois aggloméré.

Philodendron Hope Selloum

This incredible Philodendron, known as Hope Selloum, Lacy Tree, Horsehead, and Cut Leaf, makes a stunning, vibrant impact. Its impressively large serrated leaves are heart-shaped, medium green, and glossy with deep, wavy incisions along the edges. This jungle giant is not only beautiful, but also a very forgiving, adaptable, and low-maintenance houseplant. Originating from South America, it is “self-heading” meaning it does not creep or climb in a vine-like manner as some other philodendrons do. Meaning it will grow large and bushy rather than tall and vining. This plant also filters certain toxins from the air, improving the overall air quality in your home! They do not need to see the sun directly. But filtered sunlight through glass is fine. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day, like somewhere shady outside or inside behind a window.
